Anodyne therapy is one of the many modalities we use in the treatment of patients at Physiocare Physical Therapy.
Anodyne therapy is a kind of light therapy used to provide relief for such painful symptoms as muscle spasms and stiffness as well as circulation irregularities. Patients needing increased circulation and pain relief in various parts of the body can benefit from anodyne therapy, which is also called “monochromatic infrared photo energy (MIRE).”
WHAT DOES ANODYNE THERAPY DO?
Anodyne therapy is a relatively new type of treatment, having been first used in 1994. When the treatment is administered, pads are applied to the skin’s surface, and the pads emit the light. Experiencing relief from symptoms may be achieved in one session, but it may take up to a few treatments.
The ultimate benefit is that anodyne therapy provides increased circulation and pain relief that could help a patient cope with their medical condition. After undergoing anodyne therapy, a patient will hopefully experience improved range of motion, flexibility, strength, endurance, and balance. Compared to other modalities, anodyne therapy is a relatively inexpensive treatment.
