Our skilled rehabilitation therapists at Physiocare Physical Therapy use neuromuscular re-education when normal movements need to be restored.
JUPITER NEUROMUSCULAR RE-EDUCATION
Damage or injury to muscles and/or nerves can disrupt muscle movement patterns that are learned and stored in the memory. Neuromuscular re-education may be needed after trauma or certain medical or neurological conditions such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury or with any postural-related disorders or conditions affecting balance and/or proprioception (the ability of your joints to know where they are in space).
ACTIVITIES INVOLVED IN NEUROMUSCULAR RE-EDUCATION
Manual techniques, such as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), are among the strategies our skilled therapists at Physiocare use in helping patients through the process of neuromuscular re-education. Other components of this type of treatment may include:
- Balance and core control activities, such as therapeutic ball exercises and Bosu exercises.
- Stimulation reinforcing nerve signals for functional movements.
The theory behind neuromuscular re-education is that by repeating appropriate muscle movements, nerve signals are retrained and the patterns of movement become automatic again.
NEUROMUSCULAR RE-EDUCATION TREATMENT AT PHYSIOCARE
You may be referred to Physiocare Physical Therapy by a doctor for neuromuscular re-education.
Because we are a direct access facility, you can also schedule a visit on your own. We begin neuromuscular re-education treatment with an assessment of your posture, balance, strength, and joint movement. A neuromuscular re-education program of action will be designed for you, to restore previous functioning.
